Reiki is a Japanese healing practice that promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and supports the body’s natural healing through light touch or hands held just above the body. It is also a meditative practice that works with life force energy.
The word Reiki comes from Rei (universal wisdom) and Ki (life force energy), often translated as “spirit-guided life force energy”.
During a session, a practitioner gently works with this energy to support balance and wellbeing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.
Reiki supports overall well-being on physical, emotional, and energetic levels. Most clients come to Reiki for stress relief, as it helps activate the body’s relaxation response, calming the nervous system and supporting rest and recovery.
It may also support pain reduction and improved sleep by helping the body shift out of chronic stress patterns and into a more balanced state. Emotionally, Reiki can help release stored tension and support greater clarity, ease, and emotional balance.
Many people also experience a renewed sense of energy, focus, and mental calm after sessions, as the mind settles and the body returns to a more grounded state.
Research into Reiki suggests it may support physical and emotional wellbeing, particularly in relation to stress and relaxation. Studies from institutions such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and journals like the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine have explored the following areas:
Reiki is a supportive practice for relaxation, stress relief, and emotional balance, but it is not a replacement for medical or mental health care.
It is not a cure for disease, a treatment for mental health conditions, or a substitute for care from licensed healthcare professionals. Reiki also is not a quick fix—its benefits are often gradual and cumulative over time.
Instead, Reiki is best used as a complementary practice alongside traditional medical or therapeutic care to support overall wellbeing.
I have more information on common questions here on my FAQs on Reiki page.
You’ll be welcomed into a calm, quiet space designed for relaxation. We’ll begin with a brief conversation about how you’re feeling, any concerns you’d like to focus on, and your intentions for the session.
You’ll then lie fully clothed on a comfortable massage table. The room is kept peaceful, often with soft music and optional aromatherapy to help you settle in.
Once the session begins, I use gentle hand placements on or just above specific areas of the body to support energy flow and relaxation. You may experience warmth, tingling, deep rest, emotional release, or simply a meditative sense of stillness.
After the session, we take a few moments for you to come back fully and, if you’d like, briefly share anything you experienced before you leave feeling grounded and refreshed.
After reading about Reiki, you may be feeling curious or interested in experiencing it for yourself. I offer Reiki sessions at my Hand to Soul studio in St. Petersburg, Florida in 60 or 90-minute sessions.
Sessions can also include sound healing or other supportive add-ons to enhance your experience. I serve clients throughout St. Petersburg, Largo, Pinellas Park, Clearwater, and the greater Tampa Bay area.
Remote or distance Reiki is a way of receiving Reiki energy across distance through intention and energetic connection. It is just as effective as in-person Reiki, as energy is not limited by physical location. In distance work, I connect intuitively using your name and a photograph and work directly with your energy field, often through connection with your higher self, allowing the session to bypass the ego mind, which can sometimes resist healing.
To schedule a session, you can reach out to me by email with your name and a recent photograph. After your session is complete, I will follow up by email to let you know it has been done, along with any insights or aftercare recommendations if needed.
I’m passionate about reiki because it creates space for people to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and feel more balanced in their body and mind. Life can move fast and become overwhelming, reiki offers a simple, supportive way to return to a sense of calm and inner awareness.
I also love that it meets each person exactly where they are. There is nothing to perform or figure out — just time to rest, receive, and allow the body to do what it naturally knows how to do, HEAL.
For me, reiki is about supporting people in feeling more grounded, more at ease, and more connected to themselves again.
