DIY Essential Oil Body Spray

Creating a body spray using essential oils is a wonderful way to make a personalized, natural scent while also benefiting from the therapeutic properties of essential oils. Here’s a simple recipe for a DIY Essential Oil Body Spray:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces (60 ml) distilled water
  • 1 tablespoon witch hazel or vodka (acts as a preservative and helps the oils mix with water)
  • 15-20 drops of your preferred essential oils (e.g., lavender, citrus, peppermint, etc.)
  • A small funnel
  • A clean 2-ounce spray bottle

Instructions:

  1. Using the funnel, pour the witch hazel or vodka into the spray bottle.
  2. Add 15-20 drops of your chosen essential oils to the bottle. You can use a single essential oil or create a blend by combining a few oils that complement each other. For example, a relaxing blend might include lavender and chamomile, while an energizing blend could feature citrus oils like lemon and orange.
  3. Slowly fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water, leaving a little space at the top to avoid overflow when you put the sprayer top on.
  4. Tightly seal the bottle with the sprayer top and shake the bottle gently to mix the ingredients.

These tips will help keep your DIY Body Spray fresh.

First, shake the body spray well before each use to ensure the essential oils are evenly distributed in the mixture.

If you are new to using essential oil, you may also want to perform a patch test on a small area of your skin before using the body spray more widely. This will ensure you don’t have any sensitivities or allergies to the oils.

Choose essential oils that are pure essential oils and not fragrance oils. Fragrance oils may cause allergies and skin sensitivities, not to mention they may have harmful chemicals in them. You don’t want that on your skin.

It’s best to store the body spray in a cool, dark place to help preserve the potency of the essential oils. The sun will degrade your oils.

This DIY essential oil body spray is customizable, use this as a starting point to create your own blends.  Experiment with different essential oil combinations to create scents that you love or that offer you the therapeutic benefits you need.
