Everything is vibration—our thoughts, words, actions, and emotions all hold frequency. Over years of working with vibration, I’ve learned that to truly shift how we think, feel, speak, and behave, we must go deep within ourselves and shift our frequency. I support clients in doing this with reiki, Thai massage, Holistic Balance Massage, and sound healing.

Most of you have experienced the first three on this list at some point, and I want to invite you to consider more deeply sound healing as an add-on or a full session, because sound can shake things out where physical touch can’t reach. While every modality I practice offers a vibrational shift, the way we experience that shift, and what we need in the moment, can look very different. One month it might be massage that helps you move and release, another it could be reiki that works subtly on your essence. The main difference between modalities is the perspective from which we experience vibrational healing. For example, Thai massage (and shiatsu), when I work with the integrated system, shifts the energy of the body by moving chi through the meridians or sen lines, opening areas that have been tight and balancing areas that have been depleted. You experience this through stretching, acupressure, compression, breathing, and movement.

Reiki as Vibration

Reiki is also vibrational healing, and I could talk all day about the miracles it provides—pain relief, improved sleep, spiritual connection, emotional healing, calming a busy mind, groundedness, support with grieving, healing from injury or surgeries, and the list goes on. Sound healing fits into this same category of vibrational therapy, yet it brings a very different experience. You might be wondering: what’s the difference between the vibrational healing of reiki and that of sound? They are distinct in how we feel and receive them.

Reiki works subtly on the layer of our being that is our essence. It is like drinking water when you’re thirsty—you feel refreshed, satisfied, full, and after a while, you forget you were thirsty at all. Reiki is giving your body what it needs to be balanced in a gentle, loving, and supportive way. It’s hard to show what reiki does, and I’ve struggled with this in photographs for my site even, because reiki is an internal experience—we go somewhere deep, and only you know what it feels like for you.

Sound Healing as Vibration

Sound, on the other hand, moves through the physical body in a tangible, experiential way. It is felt through the deep hum in your tissues and the resonance in your ears. The whole body becomes entrained to the sound and moves from physical experience into subtle body awareness and beyond. As I write this, I can see that from my experience as both practitioner and receiver, sound moves from the physical layer to the layer of our essence. And I think that for people who have a hard time surrendering in a reiki session, sound may be the key to unlocking that experience.

Sound has been part of my healing path for many years. I began with one crystal bowl about 12 years ago. It was the heart chakra bowl. I loved the sound and it remains my favorite played bowl in my collection. Then, every year following, I was gifted a crystal bowl until my set was complete. I was later drawn to Himalayan bowls, and over time, I’ve deepened my practice by integrating multiple sound instruments together. The bowls I use are hand-hammered in Nepal and India by master artisans, created within a long lineage of vibration, rhythm, and chanting. These bowls are traditionally made in ceremonial ways, where prayer, mantra, and intention are part of the process itself. They are not mass-produced instruments and you can feel the depth and resonance of this lineage when they’re played.

A full one-hour sound healing session is a deeply nourishing experience for the nervous system. Sound therapy has been scientifically studied for its calming and restorative effects on the brain, helping shift us out of stress and into a state of rest, regulation, and healing. Many people describe feeling grounded, spacious, and deeply relaxed, often in ways that are hard to put into words.

I love to receive sound healing as much as I like to give it, and that goes for everything I offer. I offer it because of my passion and love for helping others find relief in these stressful times.

If you’re ready to experience it for yourself, I invite you to book a session and tune into your healing.

In this reflection, I share how working with vibration has been reshaping my healing work—inviting trust, presence, and a more embodied way of listening.

I want to share a little about my process of coming into relationship with sound healing, and how deeply it has been moving and reshaping me along the way.

I have worked with the body for decades through massage and reiki, and I understand healing as something that happens through presence, listening, and relationship. Still, sound has opened a different doorway for me that feels both ancient and immediate. The vibrations are not subtle. They travel through bone, tissue, breath, and space. They don’t ask permission. They meet the body exactly where it is.

As I continue to evolve with sound healing, I notice how deeply it speaks to the nervous system. There is something about vibration that bypasses language and story. The body doesn’t need to understand. It only needs to feel. Sound has a way of organizing what feels scattered, softening what feels guarded, and gently shaking loose what has been held for too long.

What has moved me most is how sound invites surrender— not by collapse, but through trust. When I work with bowls and other instruments, I am reminded that healing doesn’t come from effort or force. It comes from allowing vibration to do what it naturally does: resonate, harmonize, and restore. I am not directing the experience so much as listening and responding. The sound leads. I follow.

This mirrors the way I already work with reiki and massage. In all three, I am not “fixing” anything. I am paying attention. I am creating space. I am letting the body remember itself. Sound healing has deepened that understanding. It has taught me that vibration itself is a form of touch, one that reaches places hands sometimes cannot.

There are moments during sound sessions when I feel the room shift. Breath deepens. Faces soften. The body settles into a state of safety and receptivity. Sometimes emotions move. Sometimes there is stillness. Sometimes there is a feeling that words don’t quite capture, but the body knows. That is the power of sound, it communicates without explanation.

As I integrate a variety of instruments alongside the bowls, the experience becomes layered and immersive. Each instrument carries its own frequency, texture, and medicine. Together, they create a conversation within the body that invites balance, release, and integration. For me, sound healing is not just about relaxation. It is about alignment.

This work has moved me because it feels honest. It feels embodied. It feels true to how healing actually happens and from my experience it does so gently, intelligently, and in relationship with something greater than technique. I am still learning, still listening. And I feel grateful to be evolving with this modality, allowing sound to shape my practice and deepen the way I serve.

Sound healing is teaching me to trust vibration, trust presence, and trust the body’s innate capacity to heal. And that feels like a natural continuation of the path I have always been walking.

I want to leave you with an invitation to experience sound healing with me. Here is a link to book a session.

Shortly after I had my daughter, I started noticing this subtle but persistent pain in my pelvis. Weeks after recovering from birth, it still lingered. I tried stretching, yoga, even a chiropractic adjustment, but nothing seemed to fully release it. Over time, I got used to it, only noticing it when I moved too fast or pushed my body in certain ways. My left pelvis had this way of reminding me—it was definitely still out of place.

Then I went to a Thai massage workshop. Like most workshops, we spent time learning techniques and practicing on each other. When it was my turn to receive a session, my partner applied a technique meant to open the pelvis. And just like that—I felt it drop back into place. I moved my leg in every way I knew would make it scream in pain… and nothing. For the first time in over a year, I was completely pain-free.

I couldn’t stop smiling. I kept stretching and bending, expecting a hint of discomfort—but there was none. I knew in that moment it was gone for good. I was so elated, I bounced around the room sharing it with the instructor. Everyone gathered around, curious, as my partner demonstrated the move again while I described what it felt like inside my pelvis.

But the experience went deeper than physical relief. That dull, nagging pain had dimmed a part of me too—a protective, hidden part that was trying to stay tucked away. When the pain released, it felt like a stream of water flowing, and I felt that hidden part of me come alive again. It was one of those rare, incredible experiences that touches both body and spirit.

That moment reminded me that Thai massage isn’t just about physical relief—it’s about emotional release too. The body can carry tension for months, even years, but with the right approach, true release is possible. And when it happens, it’s transformative.

The post Plant-Based Foods That Reduce Inflammation and Aid in Muscle Recovery appeared first on Hand to Soul.

Inflammation is a natural response by the body to injury, stress, or illness. However, chronic inflammation can lead to pain, fatigue, and long-term health problems. A plant-based diet can be an effective way to reduce inflammation and speed up muscle recovery. Whole plant foods are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that support the body’s healing processes.

Unlike processed foods that can increase inflammation, plant-based foods work to nourish and repair tissues naturally.

If you’re looking to reduce inflammation and support muscle recovery, incorporating these powerful plant-based foods into your diet can make a significant difference.

How Inflammation Affects Muscle Recovery

After intense exercise or physical strain, microscopic damage occurs in muscle fibers. This triggers an inflammatory response, which is necessary for healing but can also cause soreness, stiffness, and fatigue. While short-term inflammation is beneficial, prolonged inflammation can slow recovery and lead to chronic pain.

Certain foods, particularly those high in refined sugar, processed fats, and artificial additives can exacerbate inflammation. On the other hand, a plant-based diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods helps to control inflammation, promote tissue repair, and restore energy levels.

By choosing the right plant-based foods, we can enhance muscle recovery, reduce pain, and keep your body strong and resilient.

Top Plant-Based Foods That Reduce Inflammation and Aid Muscle Recovery

1. Leafy Greens (Spinach, Kale, Swiss Chard)

Leafy greens are rich in antioxidants, vitamins A, C, and K, and minerals like magnesium, which help reduce inflammation and support muscle function. Magnesium is especially important for muscle relaxation and preventing cramps. These greens also contain nitrates that improve blood flow, aiding in faster recovery.

Try this Creamy Spinach Soup Blender Recipe.

2. Berries (Blueberries, Strawberries, Blackberries)

Who doesn’t love berries? These tiny, nutrient-packed gems give us even more reasons to enjoy them!

Berries are packed with powerful antioxidants called anthocyanins, which help combat oxidative stress and inflammation. They also contain vitamin C, which plays a crucial role in collagen production, helping to repair damaged muscles and connective tissue. Adding a handful of berries to your post-workout smoothie or oatmeal can significantly boost your recovery process.

3. Turmeric and Ginger

I grew up in India, where turmeric was celebrated as a magic healer. It was added to milk, meals, curries, and even beauty treatments. From food to skincare, turmeric was an essential part of daily life.

Now I understand why! Turmeric contains curcumin, one of the most potent natural anti-inflammatory compounds. It helps reduce muscle soreness and joint pain, making it an excellent recovery food. Pairing turmeric with black pepper enhances curcumin absorption, maximizing its benefits.

Ginger also has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Studies show that consuming ginger can help reduce muscle pain after exercise. Adding fresh ginger to smoothies, teas, or meals can speed up the healing process. My favorite way to consume ginger is to add ginger powder to curries and tea. It gives my curries and tea a nice zing.

4. Nuts and Seeds (Walnuts, Almonds, Flaxseeds, Chia Seeds)

Nuts and seeds are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which have strong anti-inflammatory effects. Walnuts and flaxseeds, in particular, contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 that supports muscle recovery.

Chia seeds and hemp seeds also provide complete plant-based protein, making them a great addition to post-workout meals. Sprinkle them over salads, blend them into smoothies, or mix them into plant-based yogurt for a recovery-boosting snack.

5. Legumes (Lentils, Chickpeas, Black Beans)

Legumes are rich in plant-based protein, fiber, and essential nutrients like iron and magnesium, all of which support muscle repair and reduce inflammation. They provide a steady release of energy, preventing fatigue and promoting endurance.

Lentils and chickpeas are also excellent sources of lysine, an amino acid that plays a key role in muscle recovery. Including them in soups, stews, or salads can help repair damaged tissues and reduce soreness.

6. Avocados

Creamy avocados aren’t just delicious—they’re incredibly good for us too!

Avocados are loaded with healthy monounsaturated fats, which help reduce inflammation and support joint health. They also contain potassium and magnesium, essential for preventing muscle cramps and promoting relaxation.

Adding avocado to your meals—whether in salads, toast, or smoothies—can help you recover faster and keep your muscles functioning optimally.

7. Dark Chocolate (85% or Higher Cocoa Content)

Dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids, powerful antioxidants that fight inflammation and improve blood circulation. It also contains magnesium, which helps relax muscles and prevent cramps.

Choosing dark chocolate with a high cocoa content (85% or more) ensures you’re getting the most benefits without added sugar. Enjoying a small piece after a workout can be a delicious and beneficial treat.

8. Whole Grains (Quinoa, Brown Rice, Oats)

Whole grains provide complex carbohydrates, which replenish glycogen stores after exercise. They also contain fiber, vitamins, and minerals that reduce inflammation and support muscle recovery.

Quinoa is a particularly great choice because it’s a complete protein, containing all nine essential amino acids. Including quinoa, brown rice, or oats in post-workout meals ensures sustained energy and better recovery.

9. Green Tea

Green tea is packed with catechins, antioxidants that reduce inflammation and enhance muscle recovery. It also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation and mental clarity.

Drinking green tea after exercise can help reduce muscle soreness and speed up the recovery process. Adding a squeeze of lemon enhances its antioxidant effects.

10. Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a rich source of complex carbohydrates, fiber, and antioxidants like beta-carotene. They provide the energy needed for recovery while reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.

Roasting or steaming sweet potatoes and pairing them with a plant-based protein source makes for a perfect post-workout meal.

How to Incorporate These Foods into Your Diet

    • Start your day with a smoothie made from leafy greens, berries, flaxseeds, and plant-based protein for a recovery-boosting breakfast.

    • Snack on nuts, seeds, or dark chocolate to keep inflammation in check throughout the day.

    • Add turmeric and ginger to soups, stews, and teas for their powerful anti-inflammatory benefits.

    • Use avocado and legumes in salads to create a nutrient-dense meal that supports muscle repair.

    • Enjoy a post-workout meal with whole grains like quinoa, paired with sweet potatoes and greens for optimal recovery.

Why You Should Try a Plant-Based Anti-Inflammatory Diet

Switching to a plant-based diet doesn’t mean compromising on taste or nutrition. Plant-based foods offer a wide range of delicious flavors while providing essential nutrients that reduce inflammation and support muscle recovery.

By avoiding processed foods and focusing on whole, nutrient-dense ingredients, you can enhance your body’s natural ability to heal, reduce soreness, and maintain peak physical performance. Whether you’re an athlete, a yogi, or simply looking to improve your overall health, a plant-based approach can be a game-changer.

I’m a Florida native and have lived in St. Petersburg for 15 years. I knew I wanted to move here from Central Florida the moment I crossed the Courtney Campbell Bridge and saw the sun setting over the bay. Then, on my drive into St. Pete, my heart opened seeing glimpses of old Florida bungalows and the beachy vibe. I was sold and moved three months later.

Although St. Pete has grown a lot since then, with more and more people falling in love with it like I did, it continues to offer the best of Florida. We have spectacular beaches, dolphin sightings are the norm, the most amazing sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico, warm water, powder-soft sand, and the people here are chill and laid-back. I love calling this city home.

When I started my solo massage practice in 2016, I knew I wanted it to be in St. Pete. I honestly can’t imagine living anywhere else. I feel like I’ve driven on every street here and know this place like the back of my hand. So while you’re visiting this magical oasis I call home, I invite you to treat yourself to a Thai Massage, Reiki healing, or Sound Healing session with me. Traveling and sightseeing all the amazing things around town can wear you out. I can take care of the aches and get you feeling good for your stay here. And I am conveniently located in Central St. Pete, just minutes from Treasure Island and The Pier.

January always feels like a breath of fresh air—a beautiful reminder that we can begin again. While we have the power to start fresh at any point in the year, there’s something special about the energy of a new year. It feels like a symbolic clean slate, inviting us to reflect, recalibrate, and set intentions for what we want to build in the months ahead.

Whether it’s focusing on health, cultivating abundance, nurturing relationships, or starting new habits, this is the perfect time to lay the foundation for a fulfilling year. For me, I like to keep my New Year rituals simple and grounding. I’ve been doing these New Year rituals for over a decade now, and I can’t imagine starting a new year without them. They not only help me focus on what I want to cultivate within myself but also serve as the blueprint for what I aim to create in the world that year. In December, I spend time reflecting on where my heart is calling me to go next, leaning into the process of listening, allowing, and surrendering.

Choosing My Word for the Year

Each year, I choose a word or phrase to anchor me—something to guide my decisions and keep me aligned. This year, my word is Artisan. To me, it represents artistry, intentionality, and creating something meaningful. It’s a reminder to approach everything I do with care and creativity, whether in my work, relationships, or personal growth.

On a deeper level, Artisan reflects my yearning to create with my hands and reconnect with the way my ancestors made things. I come from a family deeply rooted in the art of cooking and crafting food from scratch. The aromas of my childhood kitchen—filled with spices and herbs—have awakened a desire in me to learn this craft. My mother, grandmothers, grandfathers, and even my great-grandparents were natural healers in the kitchen.

Practicing herbalism over the past few years has opened the door to this connection. Now, I see those kitchen aromas through a new lens, recognizing the incredible healing power of those spices and herbs. For me, Artisan serves as a guide to rediscover my roots and honor the legacy of my family’s hands-on wisdom.

Setting Intentions and Dreams

I like to make a list of things I want to learn, places I want to visit, and books I want to read. This practice helps me dream big while keeping my goals tangible and exciting. Last year, I challenged myself to give up sugar. It wasn’t easy—wow, was it tough!—but in the end, it was so worth it.

Some years, I jot down my list and keep it tucked in my journal, while other years, I take the time to create a vision board. The images keep me inspired and connected to what I’m working toward.

This year, one of my goals is to revisit my yoga books from when I completed teacher training. When I first read them, I was a different person—what I absorbed then was shaped by who I was and what I could process at the time. Now, more than a decade later, I’m curious to see what new insights and awakenings they might bring as I read them again with fresh eyes and a more expansive perspective.

Daily Movement and Connection

Staying grounded and connected to my body is essential. I make sure to move every day, whether it’s a yoga session or a simple walk around the neighborhood. Movement helps me clear my mind and stay present.

I also prioritize the things that fill me up: spending quality time with loved ones, enjoying moments of quiet reflection, and literally stopping to smell the flowers in my garden. These small acts of mindfulness help me stay balanced and joyful.

Recreating Ourselves

January is such a potent month for inner creativity—a time to set the stage for the year ahead. It’s not about doing everything perfectly but about starting with intention, honoring where we are, and taking small, meaningful steps forward.

As I embrace the year ahead, I’m excited to lean into my word, Artisan, and bring more care and creativity into everything I do.

How are you starting your year? What rituals help you feel grounded and inspired for the months ahead? If you’re looking for a fresh way to reset, I invite you to explore the healing power of Reiki, Thai massage, or meditation—tools that have been transformative in my own journey.

Here’s to new beginnings and creating a beautiful 2025!

Reiki is one of those practices that touches something deep within your soul. It’s hard to put into words until you’ve experienced it, but when you do, it feels like something inside you shifts — like discovering a quiet, sacred part of yourself that’s been patiently waiting to be noticed.

For me, reiki has always been more than just a tool for healing; it’s a way to reconnect with the parts of myself I often neglect. It’s a pathway that bridges the tangible and intangible — the physical and the energetic — inviting me to explore the space where true healing begins.

Let me share a bit more about this beautiful practice and why it holds such a special place in my heart.

Reiki Is…

At its heart, reiki is a reminder of our connection to something greater. Think of it as the thread that ties together our physical body and the unseen energy fields around us. It creates a sacred space where we can step away from the noise of the world and tune in to what’s happening within.

I like to think of reiki as peeling back the layers of an onion. Each session brings you closer to your authentic self, gently guiding you to let go of old patterns and rediscover the rhythms that feel natural and right for you. It’s not just about healing; it’s about growth, self-discovery, and coming home to yourself.

Reiki Does…

I remember one of my first reiki clients who came to me feeling completely overwhelmed. “I don’t even know what I need,” she said. “I just know I can’t keep feeling like this.” Reiki didn’t magically fix her stress (it’s not a quick fix for anything, really), but it gave her space — a moment to breathe and reconnect.

Reiki works on multiple levels. It helps calm the nervous system, soothe emotional overwhelm, and create balance where there’s been chaos. It’s like hitting the reset button. But one of the most profound things reiki does is open a doorway to deeper self-awareness.

Through the practice, you start to notice what your body and heart are really trying to tell you. You might uncover patterns you didn’t realize were there or find clarity about what’s been holding you back. Reiki doesn’t force anything; it simply creates the conditions for healing and insight to naturally unfold.

Reiki Embodies…

If I had to choose one word to describe reiki, it would be love. Not the kind of love tied up in expectations or conditions, but pure, universal, unconditional love. It’s this energy that reminds us we’re all connected — that healing isn’t just an individual journey, but a collective one.

When you tap into Reiki, it feels like stepping into a current of energy that’s always been there. It holds you, supports you, and gently encourages you to live in alignment with your truest self.

Bringing Reiki into Your Life

Whether you’re navigating loss, stress, or simply looking for a deeper connection to yourself, reiki is here to meet you where you are. It’s a practice that doesn’t demand anything from you but offers everything in return — balance, clarity, and a sense of peace.

If you’ve been curious about reiki or feel like it might be calling to you, I’d love to help you explore it. Whether through a one-on-one session or by teaching you how to practice it yourself, I’m here to support you on your journey.

Let’s walk this path together. Because healing isn’t just about what we release; it’s about what we rediscover — within ourselves and the world around us.

When I first embarked on my reiki journey, I was unaware of how profoundly the Five Principles of Reiki would impact my life. Mikao Usui, the founder of reiki, discovered profound happiness, peace, and both physical and emotional healing through reiki and these principles. He shared this transformative practice with others, and it is a legacy that today’s reiki teachers continue to uphold.

The Five Principles of Reiki: Spiritual Guidelines for a Balanced Life

The Five Principles of Reiki are spiritual guidelines followed by reiki practitioners. These principles embody the core ideals of reiki and offer a framework for living a life aligned with spiritual and personal growth. Although the principles were originally translated from Japanese and some translations may vary slightly, their essence remains consistent.

Here is the contemporary translation of the Five Principles of Reiki:

Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.
Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and all living things.

Each principle begins with “Just for today” to remind us that, when life becomes overwhelming, we can focus on managing our responses one day at a time. These principles are not meant to be used as tools for self-judgment but as aspirational guidelines. It is perfectly okay if you cannot adhere to them every day; you can always start again tomorrow.

Exploring the Five Principles of Reiki

  1. Just for Today, I Will Not Worry
Worry is a low-vibrating emotion rooted in fear and “what if” scenarios. It keeps us preoccupied with negative outcomes and causes unnecessary anxiety. By affirming “Just for today, I will not worry,” you allow yourself to release the stress and preoccupation of future uncertainties. This practice brings you back to the present moment and fosters trust that whatever happens is for your highest good. Though letting go of worry can be challenging, with continued practice, you will find that your life and health benefit greatly.
  2. Just for Today, I Will Not Be Angry
Anger is a deep-seated emotion that can be disruptive and harmful. It often arises from fear or limiting beliefs and can lead to unnecessary conflict and hurt. Rather than trying to suppress anger, the aim is to recognize it when it appears, understand its triggers, and choose not to react impulsively. By practicing “Just for today, I will not be angry,” you consciously decide not to let anger dominate your day. Allowing anger to pass without attachment diminishes its power over you.
  3. Just for Today, I Will Do My Work Honestly
This principle emphasizes the importance of intention in our work, whether it relates to our job or our spiritual growth. If you are engaged in work that does not resonate with you, you are not being true to yourself. This principle encourages you to view your work in a new light, recognizing its value and contribution to your spiritual path. To work honestly means dedicating yourself to purposeful living and spiritual development, both professionally and personally.
  4. Just for Today, I Will Be Grateful for My Many Blessings
Cultivating gratitude enhances our overall well-being, fosters happiness, and helps us manage our emotions more effectively. By focusing on the positive aspects of our lives, we can see that we have more to be thankful for than we might realize. Practicing “Just for today, I will be grateful for my many blessings” teaches us to appreciate what we have, leading to a healthier, happier, and more fulfilling life.
  5. Just for Today, I Will Be Kind to My Neighbor and All Living Things
This principle teaches us to honor and respect all forms of life, including people, animals, plants, and the Earth. By practicing kindness and compassion toward others, regardless of differences in viewpoint or status, we contribute to our collective well-being and evolution. Additionally, kindness towards ourselves is crucial, as many of us are our harshest critics. By extending kindness, we invite more kindness into our own lives.

These principles form the foundation of a reiki lifestyle, supporting practitioners in living more consciously and harmoniously. Consider printing out the Five Principles of Reiki and placing them in a visible location, such as your bathroom door or mirror, to serve as a daily reminder.

20-Minute Audio Meditation

Welcome to this distance reiki healing session. My name is Aiyana and I am a reiki master teacher, kundalini instructor and meditation facilitator.

In this audio track, I will guide you through a distance reiki session. You will experience deep relaxation and stress relief. Through distance reiki, I will channel Universal Life Force Energy to remove physical, mental, emotional and spiritual toxins from your body and aura.

Before we start, say aloud or to yourself that you are open to receiving reiki in this session and of letting go of what no longer serves your highest good.

You can include a personal prayer, blessing or intention at this time for your healing session. I recommend that you find a quiet place to lay down. Play this audio track on your headphones if possible or on a speaker with clear sound. It is important that you are free from distraction during this session, as I will be channeling energy for you through time and space.

The intention of this session is to balance your energy and remove negativity from your chakras and auric field. I will begin the session by working on your chakra centers beginning with the crown chakra and working my way to your root chakra. I will say I AM affirmations at each chakra center to empower your subconscious mind to align with your higher self.

Thank you for joining me and I hope you enjoy this distance reiki session.

Gassho meditation prepares us spiritually, mentally and emotionally for reiki practice. It does this by creating a harmonious state within us that supports both our personal healing journey and our ability to facilitate healing in others. The term “gassho,” pronounced gash-sho, refers to the gesture of bringing the hands together in a prayer-like position. This practice symbolizes reverence and respect, and it is deeply rooted in Buddhist traditions.

In Buddhism, gassho is not just a physical posture but a mudra that embodies heart work. It represents the cultivation of a compassionate heart, emphasizing the importance of developing kindness and empathy. By practicing Gassho meditation, we engage in a ritual that aligns our intentions with these values, fostering a deeper connection to our inner selves and our capacity to offer healing to others. It develops an understanding to the greater source of love and creation. This meditative practice helps to center our focus, calm the mind, and enhance our ability to channel reiki energy effectively.

Mikao Usui, the buddhist monk, honorary doctor and founder of reiki, shared gassho meditation with his students during reiki training as the first pillar of reiki. There are a total of three pillars in the Usui Reiki healing system. He taught students to use gassho meditation at the beginning and end of a reiki session. Gassho meditation is also practiced as part of a reiki practitioner’s lifestyle and done for 15-30 minutes daily preferably in the morning or evening.

In this mudra, the left hand represents human beings in the physical world and the right hand represents our most enlightened self. The hand gesture of bringing the hands together symbolizes that we too can embody the qualities of enlightenment. The path to enlightenment, characterized by inner stillness, wisdom, and compassion, is one that gassho brings us closer to with practice. Gassho meditation is simple and effective in calming the mind and expanding our energy.

If you have never practiced meditation before or are a beginner, give yourself time to experience it fully. Meditation can help calm a restless mind, but initially, it may make you feel anxious or irritable. If this happens to you, take long deep breaths and focus on the movement of your abdomen and chest as you breath. Start with just a few minutes of meditation and gradually increase the time as you become more comfortable. The purpose of meditation is to bring a sense of peace and clarity to the mind. With regular practice, you will find that your mind becomes less restless, and you will experience a deeper sense of tranquility and well-being.

How To Practice Gassho Meditation

  1. Find a Quiet Place: Sit in a quiet place where you will not be disturbed or distracted. You may wish to sit in a chair, on a meditation cushion, or on the floor in an easy sitting pose.
  2. Posture: Sit with your spine straight, close your eyes, and bring your hands together in a prayer position in front of your heart.
  3. Focal Point: To keep the mind calm, choose a focal point. You can focus on your breathing, the sensation of your hands touching each other, or the point where your middle fingers meet.
  4. Timing: You may set a timer for your meditation or allow yourself to be guided intuitively.
  5. Ending the Meditation: To end the meditation, bring your attention to your body, specifically to your hands and feet. Take a few deep breaths and gently open your eyes.
  6. Optional Enhancements: Some practitioners find it helpful to play relaxing music, while others prefer silence. Do what feels right for you. You might also set an intention before you begin or recite the five principles of reiki. Remember, this should not feel like an additional chore but rather a gift you are giving yourself to bring more peace, joy, and love into your life.

The Essence of Gassho Meditation

Gassho meditation is a fundamental practice in reiki. The goal is not to achieve anything specific but to simply experience the stillness within and become present in your body. With repeated practice, you will develop awareness of your body, thoughts, and emotions. This awareness paves the way for proactive living, where you respond thoughtfully to your thoughts, feelings, and environment, rather than reacting impulsively. This practice helps you hold yourself more accountable. If thoughts arise while meditating, allow them to float away without attachment or judgment. Gassho meditation increases awareness and provides the stillness needed to connect with your higher self, the intuitive side that guides your hands in a reiki healing session and in life.

By practicing Gassho meditation, you cultivate inner peace and enhance your ability to connect deeply with yourself and others.
